once a lifetime

posted in Uncategorized |

It is a … jolting experience to go to the wedding reception of the man you dreamed your whole life to marry.

I’m not sure yet if I recommend it to anyone.

His walk is different… the army trained that patent saunter out. And his voice no longer carries the hint of Australian drawl that he obtained the two years he lived there (thankfully–that voice was irresistible enough). But he hasn’t changed much in looks and I had these weird feelings of being trapped between two “me”s. Folks, I think we just succeeded in time-travel. And it’s not pleasant.

We have nothing to talk about anymore. That helps. He didn’t even ask me anything about what was going on in my life, so I didn’t even have the opportunity to flaunt my successes (well, not really, flaunt per se)… Maybe that’s what I’m most bummed about. I spent most of the reception talking to *her* parents and sisters (one of them is a good friend of mine… Why does the world always have to be small when it concerns him??). They were nice and it passed the time, talking about what I do.

His bride is nice. Cute, but not so unbearably beautiful that you keep wondering if he only married her for her looks. She seems sweet, but I do admit to stifling a disbelieving glance when he stated proudly that she now sells Mary Kay products. Just another sign.

All is good. I survived and wished them sincere, hearty congratulations.

And that’s that.

    {{{HUGS}}}

You’re brave – I don’t know what I’ll do in the same situation.

I’m not sure it was all bravery. Part of me was insanely interested in finding out exactly who this girl was. πŸ™‚

I was expected to go… I had been planning to go hme that weekend for a while and then after I got the personally addressed invitation, there was no possible way in a small town like mine that I could avoid going. So I went and ate shrimp and salmon and came away, hopefully a little more in control of myself.

Love you… I wanted to chat with you sooo badly this weekend, but my dad’s server was down. How’s your mom? I’m still up for getting up early and talking to you for a wee bit before I go to work, if you’d be around. Just let me know (obviously not for tomorrow, but maybe the day or so after that??) Otherwise we’ll try for Sat or Sun.

Ohhh, and you have to go here: http://www.legendaryheroes.com/site/LOTR/actionfigures.htm. They’re having a sale on their action figures with free shipping (even internationally!). I don’t know if you have all of these ones, but my collection is woefully lacking, so you have to help me decide. I know that I’m getting Eomer and Eowyn, they’re missing from my collection… But I don’t have Frodo (or Sam for that matter) in Orc armor, and I’m absolutely squeeing over Pippin in the Gondor uniform and I can’t decide which to get. You have the Frodo–does he look realistic? At least all of the Gollums are ugly (I’d rather have him as Smeagol,) so I’m not tempted to add him to collection! Decisions, decisions. Anyway, I thought you’d enjoy!

By the sound of it, going did you a whole lot of good. It is always good to close doors behind you (even if it takes a long time to come to that point).

My mom is doing fine thanks – she’s just in a lot of pain still and spends her days mainly in bed. It is soooo frustrating for her to not be able to do anything but read.

I’m on most of the day, so if you have a chance to hop on AIM it would be lovely to chat with you.

Ooh, you have to, have to get the Frodo in Orc armour! Of all my Frodo action figures, he’s my favorite! (am actually looking at him now, and he’s just gorgeous). It looks just like Frodo. The Sam one is good as well and the Pippin too! I’m not being much of a help, am I? And don’t get the Eomer – I have two of him and you can have on of ’em with love. I’ve been planning on sending you a parcel and I’ll just pop him in there for you. Come to think of it – do you have Aragorn with his crown? If you don’t, you can have him as well (I bought Eomer and Aragorn a while ago and than the Coronation Pack came out and I bought it because Arwen and Eowyn and Faramir were in there. So now I have doubles). Just lemme know and you can have both of them. πŸ™‚

Really?? That would be sooooo awesome! I’ll take both Eomer and Aragorn… I’/ve been wanting Aragorn in the Gondor garb. And I’m buying Frodo, Sam, and Pip tonight. I can’t say no to any of them!

          *squees and hugs you*

Will you just give me your address again? It’s been ages a while since I promised you a postcard, so your address are buried somewhere in my inbox and it will just be easier to give it again. πŸ™‚

I’m really sorry, Julia. That sounds like torture. I guess there was really no way that could have been pleasant for you, but at least you seem like you’re taking it okay. *hug*

    • admin says:

Thanks for the hug. Here’s one back– *HUG*

It wasn’t all that bad–I was expecting worse and since I had to do it, well… And it was worse when I was at home, because things never change there (the magic of a small town), and I just felt sucked back into that person I was. Now that I’m back to my other “home,” it’s easier. And closure helps, it really does.

    • 2025 – Quilts! 01/07/2026
For Christmas, my sister and I made National Park quilts for my parents, sister and brother-in-law, and niblings. 6 of them were small lap quilts, with a simple print, batting, and a backing that we sewed. The last was a queen size quilt for my sister’s camping trailer – it was a challenge putting it […]
