all the colors of the sky

I think it’s going to snow. It certainly is cold enough.

Of course, I could be wrong. I thought the same thing, looking out the window near the ICU, only, it was over a 100 degrees and August outside. The air conditioner, which works too well on some hallways, confused me. The people around me must have thought I was insane as I burst out laughing at my mistake.

Things are pretty good around here. I have to leave for a shift in the ER in a couple of hours, and I’m off to take a nap, but I thought I’d say hi, since you know it’s been a while.

I spent the day looking at paint swatches and I think I have finally, finally decided how I’m going to paint my house. I’ve hemmed and hawed about it, because the paint job from the last owners hasn’t been too awful… except that the paint is peeling off in my office (top coat is a creamy off white, underneath is “apple blossom green” and quite overwhelming) and staring at the patches has motivated me.

(For help in picturing what it all looks like, the pics to my house are still up at http://jcd1013.lotrinklings.net/house/house.html)

The living room, I’m painting a light gray, with one wall colorwashed with darker browns. My couch is a dark cherry brown, as are the window panels and curtains (although Chris has said that the curtains have to go), so I think it will look fabulous. The big bedroom on the main floor (the one I use as my computer room, sewing room, paint room, and yes, clothes storage with the peeling walls, labeled Bedroom #1) I’m leaning towards a light apricot/sand color, with rose accents. The smaller bedroom (where I sleep now-Bedroom #2) will remain yellow for now. It’s a couple shade too bright of a yellow for my taste, but I’m not sure that it’s worth painting the entire room to fix that. And I have some paintings that really compliment the color, so I think it’ll work well.

My kitchen is going to be a midtone blue, probably close to the color of my journal layout, and white. I’ve gone back and forth about this… whether to go blue or a forest green and I think the blue has won out. The cupboards and the lower part of the walls will remain white, it’ll just be the top half.

I’m leaving the hallway the cream/toupe color. The walls are much too high for me to reach and I like the color. Bedroom #3 is also staying blue. It’s my favorite room in the house and I love the light blue and white contrast.

The master bedroom, which I hope to eventually get 2 twin beds and actually have a master bedroom, will be… no surprise to those who know me well… purple. I’ve found this lovely lavender color, not too pinkish (it’s called silverberry) with a darker wine color to paint the opposite wall. If I could just somehow hang mosquito netting/canopy drappings, it would be perfect. Sadly the ceiling is too low and I think the ceiling fan would be too close, so I don’t think that’s going to happen. *pout*

So my next few days will be filled with removing light switch panels and taping all of the window sills and shoving all of my belongings to the middle of the room, so that I can actually paint. Wonder how many rooms I’ll do before I get bored of it. 🙂

Not sure what else is going on. Work is work. I definitely do not have the ADD personality that is needed for a career in emergency medicine–always good to know that the careers you decided against really don’t mesh with your personality, but it’s been enjoyable seeing the patients from the moment they walk in, and figuring out what’s going on. The past two shifts that I’ve worked, every single person, except 2, have been there because of abdominal pain. The best part? Not one of them had the same cause to their pain. I’ve gotten very good with my differential diagnosis for that!

Okay, now it is really time for some sleep. Ta!

Aww! Your house is adorable. I love the floor in your living room, it’s beautiful (we can’t have floors like that because our dog looks like Bambi taking his first steps when he tries to walk on them.)

It must be so exciting to start painting. You have your own place and now you really get to make it even more your own. I’m sure the colors you chose will look great. 🙂 Good luck with it!

My goal was to read 120 books this year. I just finished number 129. (Some of these I reviewed as part of my WWW posts). October: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. I had high expectations for this book, as it had been so praised, and I felt let down by it. Still enjoyable, […]
