Those bothersome tresses

posted in Uncategorized |

I’m back in the NICU for the rest of the month (and the mean resident is off for the rest of the month, limiting all of my interactions with him to next to nothing) and wow, it feels good to be back home. Plus, I’m working again with my favoritest attending ever (Im much more saucy with him than I ever am with my other attendings. I’m afraid I make a bad example for the medical student!) and it’s such a joy working again, I almost don’t mind that I have to go to bed in thirty seconds to face another early and full day.

But enough with that work stuff, shall we? Jack’s becoming a very dull boy.

I’ve had a paid account for something like 3 years and I’ve never used any of the extra features (except the userpics, but with the limited amount of time, I find myself using only my default. Must change that.) So, let’s do that.

Back in October, when I went home, I went to a salon and had my hair done. First time ever. I’m the $12 hairbut kind of girl. Anyway, the stylist twitted me about my bangs, saying that it made me look like a teenager and that I needed something that more respected my age. He wanted me to grow them out, I begged him into a compromise where he cut more bangs and layered them. They were cute and short and different–for about three days, before my hair slide back into its typical flat look that it always has. *sigh* I sure wish my hair flowed and glimmered like my little userpic)

I haven’t cut my hair since, and my bangs are now hanging into my eyes. And I’m having a really hard time preventing myself from just grabbing the scissors and hacking them–or at least even them out again.

So far I’ve resisted….resisted long enough to find the time to sit down and make a poll and ask you, wise flist, about it.

I’d add pictures, but I’m still having difficulty hooking my camera up to my computer, so that will have to wait.

Do vote. Your opinion matters. Also. If you vote for the grow ’em out, you gotta include suggestions for doing so. Because, otherwise, I’m likely to go mad. Mad, I tell you!

    I feel your pain.

I have a giant forehead. I should always have bangs. I am too lazy for bangs, though. So I cut them and let them grow out and when they’re grown out finally…I cut them again.

I’m glad to hear that things are so much better! 🙂

As to the poll – I haven’t voted because I’m not sure and I honestly think it really depends. Especially on what you want (which I know is possibly up there under most annoying answers ever)! And stuff! I can say that (despite being 17 and all and therefore actually a teenager) I had bangs since I was eight or so (I think? So about eight yearsish, technically) and now have been growing out my hair since this past summer and I much prefer it. But they were annoying me. (There is also that I don’t spend a whole lot of time with my hair besides trying to keep it from annoying me even though I refuse to cut it very short, so that’s another variable, but. What I personally would go with is parts of the first sentence of option the second. But I say there is no right answer! ;))

    Erm.

My hair is all long and without bangs for a reason. My last haircut was done a year ago when I visited an lj friend. LOL!

Add me to the “giant forehead” list: bangs aren’t necessarily a bad thing if it’s a nice cut, especially if they’re wispy and layered rather than the straight-cut sort that I remember sporting in high school, teehee. I occasionally grow my bangs out, then am terrified when I see a photo of myself with a GIANT WHITE SHINY forehead, and then rush off to get them cut again.

Perhaps you should try a different stylist, one who appreciates the problem and can come up with a nice look for your hair? Talk it through with someone who actually listens. I hate stylists who insist on doing what they want to do; after all, they’re not the person going home with the haircut!!

    Hey stranger!

I say, grow ’em out! I had bangs forever. I tried to grow them out once, got frustrated, and cut them. But then, a few years later, I decided to try again, stuck with it, and am glad they’re gone. I think it’s time for a hair change for you… and I think you’d look cute without bangs. Plus, they definitely do make a person look younger… which is good, except who wants to look 12 when trying to pick up boys? Hee! Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.

    -hug-

    • 2025 – Quilts! 01/07/2026
For Christmas, my sister and I made National Park quilts for my parents, sister and brother-in-law, and niblings. 6 of them were small lap quilts, with a simple print, batting, and a backing that we sewed. The last was a queen size quilt for my sister’s camping trailer – it was a challenge putting it […]
