dangerous for the pocket book

eBay is dangerous. It is. I know it, which is why I avoid it. Just exploring there makes me see all of the good deals and I start saying, “hey, I can afford that” and bid on it… then a few hours later, am outbid. Well, of course, I can’t have that, because it’s MINE, and before you know it, I’m in possession of something that is no longer the wonderful deal that it was before.
So.
I am now in possession of Season 2 of Dr. Who. I got it for cheaper than I could have bought it anywhere else, but it’s still more than I wanted to pay for it in the first place. Okay, I am very excited about it, especially since I’ve discovered that the YouTube videos were missing scenes, and I’d like to see the episodes in a less pixelated form on a bigger screen. Plus, commentary! Deleted scenes! All mine!
I’ve got a bid in for the first season…. This time, will resist pressing the button when I’ve been outbid. I will. Really.

Ohhh, special features! I’m at the beginning of season two myself, but it’s just downloads off the net so, though good quality with no missing scenes, there are no deleted scenes or other prettinesses.
I don’t like Tennant better than Eccleston, but he certainly brings more sexy to the show…
I tried downloading, but it took HOURS with my connection and I don’t have that much memory available. YouTube worked, it just wasn’t ideal.
I watched the episodes out of order, so David was the first Doctor I saw. I was a bit worried with the Christmas Invasion, because he was channeling too much of the weirdness of Barty Crouch character and was over the top. But he calmed down and was just fabulous. So I was surprised how much I adored Christopher’s version as well. Now, I couldn’t tell you who’s my favorite Doctor!

I am pretty good about reigning myself in when I first place the bet, so maybe it won’t be entirely bad for me.
If I’ve already bid on the item and am the current leader, if I used the software would it bid against me at the last minute? Or just if somebody else is ahead?

LOL! I know what you mean – I had the same reaction when someone pointed me there – “Oh no, please don’t further enable me!”
If you have already entered a bid on eBay, I don’t know if the snipe tool will work – I’ve never tried. The thing is to not bid directly via eBay, which has the added advantage of not driving the price up early on. The downside is that you can’t up your maximum close to the end if you get outbid, but then again, neither can other bidders.
One thing that has helped me is to bid an odd amount – instead of say, $25.00, bid $25.79 – that way, depending on the incerments by which the bids increase, another buyer’s automatic increase may not be enough to outbid you. Also, most bidders will place a ’round number bid, like $25.00, so you can do well by going just a hair over your ’round number’ maximum. I have won auctions by a few cents that way.

I am the impulse shopper. I got it from my mother, I’m certain. Going into the store with a “budget”, and always going over by like forty bucks. It’s a “…woops?” kind of thing.
My dad thinks I’d be a good gambler. It’s moments like those when I wonder if everything I tell him goes in one ear and out there, far away. 😀
