Anne girl
2008 marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of Anne of Green Gables. 100 years, can you believe it? Wow. Prince Edward Island, in continuing their traditions of pandering to the tourists, is celebrating the occasion with year long festivities. There’s a big part of me, that pesky, sentimental tourist (I do realize that I’m a hypocrite, but not so much that I can embrace the idea of “meeting” Anne and Diana in the streets), that really, really wants to be in PEI for the festivities
Of course, equally verbal in the inner dialogue is the frugal, money-panicked me who is trying to calculate airfare, lodging and transportation costs and wondering how I can possibly save up the money plus get the snow blower that I so need to make this winter more bearable.
Choices, choices.
Anybody inclined to tag along?

Today was my day off; 16 days without any time off is a very, very long time to survive. I was getting a wee bit punchy by the end. I only accomplished one thing today… I slept in until 11, which was exactly what I wanted to do. π I got up in time to prepare my lesson for church (on marriage, which everybody groaned when I mentioned the topic, but I think I pulled it off well–got a few laughs and some good discussion until the end where it veered off into pointless tangents), went to church and then have spent the rest of the afternoon and evening on the couch, doing absolutely nothing. It’s been great. Unfortunately, I’m on call tomorrow, so the reprieve was very short. Hopefully, this call will go a little nicer than the last, and I can actually get a few minutes or even better a couple of hours of sleep. Last one, I came home so exhausted that I went straight to bed and woke up around 3 in the morning. Hence the reason for no posts recently.
I take Step 3 of my boards in 12 days. I’m starting to get nervous now, because I really have had little time to study. And I still can’t tell my dermatologic diseases apart. All of this schooling and training and I still don’t know half of what I really ought to know.

100 years of Anne! I really want to go to PEI someday.
Do you know your neighbors? Maybe you could borrow/pool/share a snowblower?
Your schedule is so crazy. I don’t know how you do it. You have my absolute admiration.
I have to make it to PEI at some point in my life. I think next year might be it.
My neighbor will be plowing my front walk, in exchange for me letting him park his hideous run-down car in my alley. I probably could push him to do my garage and backwalk, but I work such funky hours that I gotta have a back up plan. Last year’s backup plan included a shovel, which since it snowed 12-14 inches 6 times last year is not an option this year.
I do it because I’ve been programmed to do it. I don’t even remember my life before all of the craziness of med school and residency. 30 hour days are pretty normal now.

I haven’t ever read Anne of Green Gables, but I’ve been to PEI (when I was 5 and I barely remember it). I used to watch “Avonlea,” though.
This comment is point-less. Sorry about that.
You have to watch the Anne movies. Seriously they’re my favorite. I adore the books, but the movies have such a special place in my heart.
I adore point-less comments. π

Okay, I’m going to do a post about this but you heard it here first: I’m presenting in a panel at the L.M. Montgomery Institute’s conference in PEI this coming summer and I really want a whole Anne-fan group to go together!
THAT IS SOOO COOL!
Unfortunately, my week of vacation will be in May, not June. And I’m on wards in June and absolutely, positively can not take the time off. *sigh* I hate my job sometimes.

Ooh, I’ve always wanted to go to PEI. Partly for the Anne connection, of course, but also because my great-grandmother was born there.
Perhaps this will motivate me to get a passport…
Ooh, you should come then! It’s perfect timing!

Off-topic:
How come some of your filters don’t work for me anymore? I used to stalk your flist by clicking on Kindred Spirits, and now it gives me an error message. Doctor Who also errors. But Anne Shirley, Med School, and Harry Potter work. Those were the only ones I tested.
Any idea what happened? π
I was so excited when I saw your reply because I thought for sure that you were offering to come to PEI with me and I was going to massivel squee.
Sadly, this was not so. π
I think I fixed the problem. I had been cleaning up my filters and didn’t realize that I had privitized the wrong ones. So you can go back to stalking my flist.
*hugs*
How are you, darling?

Woah, wierd. I woke up this morning thinking about Anne of Green Gables and I remembering the scene from the movie where Anne saved Diana’s sister. Yay for 100 years of Anne Goodness! Man I wanna go- always have but I wish I knew about it before to try to go this year. But thanks! And I hope you’re feeling better!
