wanna hear a scary story?
Someone rang my doorbell and then walked into my house about a half hour ago. I’m still a little jumpy over it.
It’s okay, I’m okay, ’twas my neighbor’s friends who apparently got the houses confused… but I had been downstairs watching X-Files episodes, and it’s been long enough since I watched them that I was already on edge. And it was my own stupid fault… I had been out on my front porch sweeping it a bit (my place is looking a little worn down because I haven’t had time to mow or anything), and didn’t lock the door when I came back in. I think I’ve cured myself of that little slippage.
Anyway, I ran upstairs, yelling. I honestly don’t know what possessed me to do that, except the thought that if somebody was robbing me/waiting to rape me, I’d make enough of a ruckus to bring everybody in the neighborhood over. *shudders* They had left by the time I got up there, which is a good thing–I think I would have had a heart attack if I had actually seen somebody in my house.
I will not be telling this story to my parents. I can’t even imagine their freakoutage. But I am putting bats/heavy objects on the “to buy” list to keep by my doors.

Dude, lock the doors or get a security system.
FTF icon FTW!
I always, always, always lock my doors. I open them to walk in the house, and lock them behind me. This was just a fluke, I promise.
I’ve been watching Season 2 of XF at night and it’s making me all nostalgic. Good times. Just finished watchin Anazasi last night, one of my all time favorites… Mmm.

And get a door chain/slide and a peephole…it really helps since we have oddballs like that in the neighborhood.
I have a peephole, (it’s too tall for me though!) although I do need the door chains. The problem was not so much the security of my door, more the fact that the door was unlocked.
My neighborhood is pretty safe. I checked that out thoroughly before I moved. But no place is perfect, and sometimes I forget that I’m not in the small town anymore.

Yes, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A PEEPHOLE.
And if you can, have a man record your answering machine’s message. ๐
I do have one, it’s just too tall. And it wouldn’t have helped in this case. ๐
Right now, I don’t have a answering machine. I got a local phone, but it was instantenously bombarded with telemarketers, so until October when I go on the Do Not Call list, I just use it for outgoing calls and I have the phone on silent so it can ring and ring and ring for the marketers.

I remember when we had a new front door put in, I begged to have them put the peephole where I could see it easily, but the contractors said no, that’s where the peepholes go. So I was discriminated against, yeah. My height and safety were not considered, even though as a tiny female I need the most precautions possible, IMO.
If I have high heels on, and stand on my tiptoes, I can see out ok, but if I’m in my bare feet, I need a little something to stand on (maybe you could put something by the door?)

Wow, talk about freaky! I guess it could have been worse – you could have been in the shower or in your underwear or something. That’s likely how the story would have gone had it been mine. Anyway, so what happened to our webcam date yesterday? I added you on and watched for you, but no Julia. Was the problem on my end or did the freaky unplanned visitor cause you to forget?
I know! I’m usually in my underwear by that time of night, getting ready for bed, so I’m lucky that way! And it’s also a nice thing that I had a warning break in where I could really think about these things and prepare, rather than the alternative you know.
I looked for you too! And it just dawned on me this morning that I have the securite level set so people couldn’t tell that I was online unless they were on my friends list. So you couldn’t see me. Grr. I’ll change it, but wanna email me your screenname and I’ll add you as a friend, so you’re covered both ways? When would you be free to try again?

*HUGS*
It won’t happen again! But a solid chain/bar-lock thing for the door and some bat or other won’t do any harm. Better safe than sorry any day! (And I wouldn’t tell something like that to my parents either…)
*HUGS*
It’s nice learning a lesson with just a warning, rather than something really bad happening.
It’s funny, the one thing that I remember as I was charging up the stairs to confront whoever it was, was that they were NOT going to take my computer. You can see where my priorities are!

Aw, Jules! -hug- I’m glad you’re okay.
(P.S. – I haven’t heard from you in sooo long.)
