The questions meme

Gacked from kimarama

I want everyone who reads this to ask me 3 questions, no more no less. Ask me anything you want. Then I want you to go to your journal, copy and paste this allowing your friends (including myself) to ask you anything.

Ask anyway, I won’t bite. πŸ™‚

    Oh good, my turn!

    1. What do you want to do with your medical degree?
    2. Have you ever been in love?
    3. What was your happiest day?

      1) Be a doctor. πŸ™‚ Seriously, at this moment, I’m not really sure. When I started, I was pretty sure that I was going to go into something dealing with clinical genetics, either in ob/gyn or pediatrics. That still interests me, but I haven’t pursued anything with it for a while. I get really excited about a lot of fields. I like the idea of being the family doc and knowing about a variety of different diseases and development states and being able to treat an entire family. Neurology/Neuroscience was the first block of classes that I took where I loved every moment of it. Even now, I’ll waste my lunch hour going to optional reviews on how to do a neurologic exam because it fascinates me so much.

The other thing that has hit me recently is that I want to teach. I’ve tutored on several occasions and it’s made me realize that being able to explain how something works in ways taht others can understand me is a passion. So, I might pursue being a clerkship director, so I can teach third-years.

      2. You didn’t realize that was a trick question, did you? In the typical, reciprocated sense, no. I’ve never had a boyfriend, never been kissed, (or anything that goes further than that πŸ™‚ ), can still count the number of dates on two hands, etc… But there have been two guys that I feel I was in love with… Erik from high school, the megacrush that never ended. Even now if I saw him and he proclaimed his undying love and devotion, I’m not sure but that I would drop everything in a heartbeat for him. And Oliver, my sophomore in college friendship-turned-crush-turned-ugly. I’m still hurt by him, but I did love him.

      3) Happiest day. I’m a pretty happy person in general, so there are many days that I consider happy, but two stand out. One was my birthday a year ago, where I had all of my friends and the guy that I liked over and we went ice-skating. And it was magical. Matt and I held hands, I made a fool of myself (first time skating), and afterwards, all of my friends came home and we just sat and talked and laughed for hours.
The second one was actually part of one of the worst days and pretty recent. I was frustrated because i wasn’t understanding Spanish at all, and Tina (my travelling companion) had made some comments to me about how she had to put up with me, that I was slowing her down, etc. It put me into a depressive funk, where I couldn’t imagine why anybody would really be my friend, etc… Anyway, I was writing one of my friends about all of my adventures, one of them that I was most freaked out that he was just putting up with me, because we are such opposites. And he wrote me back (twice, because he knew I liked multiple emails) and one of his comments was: “Never feel like you are a burden to anyone. Understand. Tina is lucky to have such a fun, delightful, easy going, funny companion,” along with telling me that he missed me. I melted, had the biggest grin on my face and it turned a crappy one into one of the most beautiful.

I’m really surprised. Like, really surprised. You’re so cool and smart, any guy would be lucky to have you.

1.) Where do you see yourself next year?

2.) What’s your idea of comfort (food, music, etc)

3.) What is your biggest regret?

    • admin says:

      1) This one is easy. I see myself in a hospital. πŸ™‚ Starting in July, I’ll have six-week rotations in a variety of fields (ob/gyn, surgery, family practice). I hope that next year, I will still be happy and not too tired or burned out and still in love with medicine.

      2) Being around friends is the major comfort for me. If I know that I’m loved, then things will go okay. I’ll also turn on my Eva Cassidy CDs and listen to her while eating gummy bears. I love gummy bears.

      3) Letting a particular friendship get destroyed. It happened in December, but it had been ongoing for a while. I had been on the periphery of the real fight and got dragged in and before I knew it, this girl and I were not longer speaking to each other. I had tried to fix things, but it didn’t work and everything she said to me was causing pain and blame, and it wasn’t healthy, so it ended in an argument in the cafeteria. I regret it because I had been close to her and because we had many mutual friends, who drew away from me because of it. I’ve never had a friendship do that and it made me pretty vulnerable for a while.

I’m bad at asking questions! Can’t think of a single original thing to ask you.

1.) What made you decide to go to Med-school?

2.) What did you do before going to Med-school?

3.) How old were you when you realised that you could write / when did you realise it?

I’m being boring, I know. πŸ™‚ Oh, and I forgot to say – I like your journal; very pretty.

      These are great questions, Ellie!

      1) I first seriously thought about going into medicine in probably my junior year in high school. And one of the reasons was because I have a genetic disease (called hereditary multiple exotoses), which basically causes little (and some not so little) bone tumors to grow all over my bones… I have them on my wrists, knees, ribs, pelvis, shoulders, etc. They’re pretty benign and most of the time, they don’t cause me more than just background pain, but every once in a while, they would start rubbing on a muscle or a nerve or a tendon, and I’d have to have surgery to get them removed. I’ve had I think 8 surgeries since I was twelve, most recently just last summer. So, I spent a lot of time in the doctor’s office and I realized that i liked it. I loved science and I liked the idea of helping people who had similar problems like me. I didn’t actually think that much more about it in college, until junior year rolled around and I had to think about taking the MCAT and actually applying… And I thought about it and realized that I really loved the stuff that related to medicine and I did not want to get my PhD where I’d have to write a discertation that was a hundred pages long on research. πŸ™‚

      2) Before I went to med-school, I graduated in biology (I’m a biology nut, love the subject so much), and then went to work in a hospital in a microbiology lab. It was so much fun! What I did exactly, I keep quiet about, because most people get sick from hearing about it, but I loved it. I met so many great people (Matt was one of those…) and love making money and not having to study when I got home. i was almost sad when I started school again.

      3) I can write? Really? Young, I think. I’ve always enjoyed writing. I have this notebook of really cheesy plays and stories that I wrote out my sixth grade summer. When I was a freshman, I won a medal for an essay-writing contest (against super-smart seniors, so I was proud). College, I pretty much stopped writing for fun. Didn’t have the time and got burned on some creative writing assignments which convinced me that I really couldn’t write. And I didn’t start again until after I started medical school, where I have even less time than I did before. But it keeps me sane. Most of the time, my words sound stilted and cardboardy to my ears. When I do manage to write something, if I read back over it, it feels like it was another person entirely, a channeling of sorts.

    Never Been Kissed…

Uh, I don’t really have questions, but, uh, relating to the above subject-related comment…

    Sweetie, you’re not alone…

    That is all.

    • 2025 – Quilts! 01/07/2026
For Christmas, my sister and I made National Park quilts for my parents, sister and brother-in-law, and niblings. 6 of them were small lap quilts, with a simple print, batting, and a backing that we sewed. The last was a queen size quilt for my sister’s camping trailer – it was a challenge putting it […]
