rip off

posted in Uncategorized |

They’re charging me a $100 freaking dollars for my stupid yearbook. One Hundred Dollars!

I just spent over $100 dollars today on getting announcements!!! $65 dollars for my oh-so-beautiful gown and cap. And now this.

From an email, back in December “Finally, in order to decrease the final cost of the yearbook, we are selling ad space.” Um, folks, THIS AIN”T A DECREASED PRICE!!! I’ve done yearbooks before, the entire gamut. I’ve sat in darkened little rooms and mixed chemicals. I’ve sat underneath basketball rims to get the perfect shot. I’ve cropped and chopped and played with layouts until I was seeing square shapes in my dream. And I’ve gone out and begged for money to put in ads. All I know, is that it didn’t cost us this much for my entire high school, which was approximately the same size as my med school class.

ARGH!

On a side note. I did start watching the Gilmore Girls finale, but left for dinner with some friends. Anybody want to tell me what happens in the last 10-15 minutes? I think the last I saw was when Rory surprised Logan with the London party. I’m not sure that I really care, more for just idle curiousity.

Instead of working on my paper today (yes, I’m very very bad), I went through and updated/completed all of my tagging on my past entries. There’s still some cleanup that I need to do, entries that are still missing labels and I need to figure out someway to override the “tag” page (http://jcd1013.livejournal.com/tag) to make it more readable, but I haven’t figured out to do that. Hmm. I do feel somewhat accomplished though. Sorting through emails, now arranging LJ entries–go me!

I have therapy and a doctor’s appointment check tomorrow. I have to get them to sign a clean bill of health for residency. I should have done this a month ago, but oh well.

Word of the Day: assuage: to make less intense or severe, to pacify, to satisfy. Use it well, my friends, use it well.

Julia out.

Gilmore Girls ended with Rory’s party for Logan and then Logan leaving for London the next morning while Rory stood at the door of their palatial apartment crying. The other half of the story ended with Lorelai giving Luke an ultimatum on the wedding and he refusing to capitulate. Thus, Lorelai went over to Christopher’s and ended up sleeping with him. The last scene is of the two of them in bed together.

Subject change: Where’d you go for dinner? Go with anyone I’d know?

      You commented!! Yay!

I had a feeling that was how it was going to end. Bah. *shakes head disgustedly*

Palatial. Capitulate. Excellent vocabulary, Michelle. Will definitely have to file those away for future use!

I went to Mi La Chi for dinner. I don’t know if it was around when you lived here, but it’s been one of my favorites. It’s a Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant. They have some of the best egg rolls that I have ever tasted. It was for the birthday of one of the girls in the ward. Jadeen Kwon was there–I think you would remember her from the 28th ward, but other that that, most of them were girls that I didn’t know very well either.

I’ve been scrounging up pictures for a possible icon for you. How do you feel about having a naked belly in the icon? There were a couple of cute girls with smiley faces on the pregnant belly, but I didn’t know if you’d feel that those were too risque. But I’ve found some cute ones otherwise and should have a couple of choices available for you soon!

Mi La Chi doesn’t sound familiar. I will have to try it next time I visit. I do remember Jadeen, though! That’s cool that you still see her. As for the naked belly – let’s leave that to the Hollywood actresses. You judged well that that’s too risque for me, even if it’s not actually mine. Thanks for the work you’re doing on that! Anything to avoid writing a paper, though, right?

  • I didn’t reply before this because I taped it.

Luke is an idiot. He can’t see the great woman he has, and IMO is commitment phobic. First he postponed the wedding because he felt that June would be better, and now he’s using his daughter April as an excuse. It’s ridiculous, because April isn’t six; she’s thirteen. She’s very logical/scientific and if asked by Luke whether or not she cared if he got married, would likely, in character, comment that she didn’t care.

On the other hand I think there’s definitely a lack of communication between Luke and Lorelai which might need to be breached. For example, he didn’t understand why she was swinging around the luggage he got from April’s mom. And Lorelai hasn’t bothered to sit down with him to actually discuss their future, instead preferring to let it out at Lane’s wedding reception.

Lorelai said that Luke is the only man to ever “get” her, but I don’t know about that. I wonder if she would maybe be better off with Christopher or look for a man elsewhere.

  • Well, I see that you’ve got five comments, so I’m sure someone’s told you about the last of the ‘Gilmore’ finale by now. But it was wonderful, really, superb. Or I was high on life or something. I’ve been Gilmored, I’ve been Gilmored!

So nice to see an entry from you. I hope you’re doing well. Sasha says, “Not the Momma!” Woops, that was for me. Sasha says hello.

My goal was to read 120 books this year. I just finished number 129. (Some of these I reviewed as part of my WWW posts). October: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. I had high expectations for this book, as it had been so praised, and I felt let down by it. Still enjoyable, […]
