catfish friend

If I make it through this week, without snapping at my passive-aggressive, inefficient, endless rounding attending, I will consider it a success. Last time, it took about 3 days for me to decide that I did not enjoy working with her. It took less than 15 minutes today to remember why. Of the 7 days that I’ll be working with her, I’m on call for 3. Did i mention the long, long hours?

This poem has nothing to do with the above. 🙂 Or maybe I’m feeling like I need a catfish right now.

Your Catfish Friend
by Richard Brautigan

If I were to live my life
in catfish forms
in scaffolds of skin and whiskers
at the bottom of a pond
and you were to come by
one evening
when the moon was shining
down into my dark home
and stand there at the edge
of my affection
and think, “It’s beautiful
here by this pond. I wish
somebody loved me,”
I’d love you and be your catfish
friend and drive such lonely
thoughts from your mind
and suddenly you would be
at peace,
and ask yourself, “I wonder
if there are any catfish
in this pond? It seems like
a perfect place for them.”

    • 2025 – Quilts! 01/07/2026
For Christmas, my sister and I made National Park quilts for my parents, sister and brother-in-law, and niblings. 6 of them were small lap quilts, with a simple print, batting, and a backing that we sewed. The last was a queen size quilt for my sister’s camping trailer – it was a challenge putting it […]
