music: a prayer of the soul
I find that music is one of the best channels I have in my spirituality–the words, the soaring notes pierce my heart even if it’s a little hardened, cynical or distant. There’s something about it that brings me closer to God, back on path. Granted, it has to be good music, good lyrics, not sentimental crap that is designed purely to try to get you to cry (I could list hundreds of exampes that instead of making me feel warm and fuzzy get me so irritated I can’t see straight).
In church today, we had a musical number that did exactly that, inspired me rather. I don’t know if it was the singer or the instrumentation that backed (flute, piano and a string quartet… lovely combination), but I don’t think there was a dry eye in the chapel. I came home and promptly did a google search to see if I could find a recording of that particular arrangement. No such luck, but I did find the lyrics. And since there are many of my friends who have been struggling recently, I thought there might be someone else who is touched as well.
Unanswered yet? The prayer lips have pleaded
In agony of heart these many years?
Does faith begin to fail, is hope departing,
And think you all in vain those falling tears?
Say not the Father hath not heard your prayer;
You shall have your desire, sometime, somewhere.
Unanswered yet? Tho’ when you first presented
This one petition at the Father’s throne,
It seemed you could not wait the time of asking,
So urgent was your heart to make it known.
Tho’ years have passed since then, do not despair;
The Lord will answer you, sometime, somewhere.
Unanswered yet? Nay, do not say ungranted;
Perhaps your part is not yet wholly done,
The work began when first your prayer was uttered,
And God will finish what he has begun
If you will keep the incense burning there;
His glory you shall see, sometime, somewhere.
Unanswered yet? Faith cannot be unanswered;
Her feet were firmly planted on the Rock;
Amid the wildest storm prayer stands undaunted,
Nor quails before the loudest thunder shock;
She knows Omnipotence has heard her prayer,
And cries, “It shall be done, sometime, somewhere.”
*hugs to everyone*

Thanks. That’s a reminder that I really needed.
Perhaps your part is not yet wholly done,
We’re much too quick to give up asking when we don’t recieve immediately. God doesn’t deal in instant gratification.

That is beautiful. So often, I wonder if God is listening. I wonder if he even cares. I like this song. I wish I could have been there to hear it, but you sharing the lyrics is just as good. Thank you for sharing.
*hugs you tight*
My Elisey
It’s taken me a while to get through all of my posts and respond, but I really wanted to write this to you.
My dear, dear, Elise. I wish soooo much that you could feel God’s love for you, because I have no doubt that he is close, he loves you, and he cares so deeply for you. I know that he does.
I am so sorry that you drown in this depression, that you struggle with your self worth. I only know you through this electronic medium, but believe me, I think you are someone truly special–a beautiful child of God with so much potential. I know you struggle with raising your daughter and worry that you will cause her pain, but you have the strength and the courage to forge through this. You alreay have gone through so much, I know, and I hate to see that you hurt. But you, my friend, can conquer this. You can.
*hugs* Love you, my dear.
I’m screening this comment, because I don’t think it’s my place to share your pain with everybody else (I do hope you get email notification). But, please email at jcd1013@uofu.net. I won’t be able to answer for the next few days while I recooperate, but I’m here for you.
