Procrastinating

posted in Uncategorized |

I’m waiting for some random person who’s fixing his car next door to finish. He asked to plug in his extension cord and would only be a few minutes. Fine, but that was an hour ago, and um, I can’t shower or anything until he’s done.

So, instead, you all get to entertain me! Snagged from everybody:
Tell me a fandom you know I know of and I’ll tell you:

01. The first character I first fell in love with:
02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
03. The character everyone else loves that I don’t:
04. The character I love that everyone else hates:
05. The character I used to love but don’t any longer:
06. The character I would shag anytime:
07. The character I’d want to be like:
08. The character I’d slap:
09. A pairing that I love:
10. A pairing that I despise:

Believe me, there are TONS of fandoms that I could answer. And I won’t even back away blushing from the shagging question like I normally do. Ask away! Ask numerous times!

    Hmm.

    Firefly?

Or Lord of the Rings, if you don’t know it/you’d prefer/you want more entertainment. 🙂 (Although unless you’re talking the movies also, number 6 seems slightly weird to me there. *laughs*)

I don’t believe in “or”. You get answers to both, you lucky girl!

      Firefly:
      01. Character I first fell in love with: Since I did things opposite of everybody else and watched Serenity first, I’d probably say River. Because she was just amazing and heartbreaking and complex in the movie.
      02. Character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Wash. Once again, I liked him from the movie, but he didn’t have a huge part and while I was saddened and shocked by his demise, it wasn’t until I started watching the series that I really fell for him and mourned his parting so much.
      03. Character everyone else loves that I don’t: Jayne? I like him, but I have a hard time understanding his motives and he just seems scary and unhinged at times.
      04. Character I love that everyone else hates: I think people hate Inara. I really like her. I like the friendship between her and Kaylee and the understanding she shows River. The fights between her and Mal do get annoying, though.
      05. Character I used to love but don’t any longer: Nobody?
      06. Character I would shag anytime: Probably Wash. LOL! He’s that nerdy, funny type that I find extremely attractive. And he’s extremely adoring of the women in his life.
      07. Character I’d want to be like: Kaylee. Because she’s independent and a little rough, but a romantic at heart.
      08. Character I’d slap: I’ve wanted to slap all of them at one point or another. I love ’em, but they’ve all got flaws.
      09. A pairing that I love: Zoe/Wash. They’re everything I look for in relationships: trust, love, passion, humor, differences.
      10. A pairing that I despise: Jayne/River. Somebody’s smoking something with that pairing. *shudders*

      Lord of the Rings:

      01. Character I first fell in love with: Frodo. From the first words to the last scene. I’ve always been in love with him.
      02. Character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Faramir. The first few times reading the books, I wasn’t so into the world of man–I was a hobbit lass through and through. But I’ve really gotten to know his character and really adore him now.[info]fileg‘s wonderful stories and tutelage have probably helped that along.
      03. Character everyone else loves that I don’t: Probably Boromir. It’s not that I don’t like him. I do. I just don’t understand the overwhelming fancination, and blinding adoration that the fandom has for him.
      04. Character I love that everyone else hates: There’s a lot of Eowyn despisers around (I think Ellie is one of them!), but I’ve always really like Eowyn. Tolkien had difficulty writing his female characters period (my one complaint about his writing that I would ever make), but Eowyn I think is his strongest. I understand her motivations, and while I don’t agree with them, I know very well from personal experience where she’s coming from. And in the movie–her clothes were the prettiest. 😀
      05. Character I used to love but don’t any longer: I don’t think there’s anybody who fits here.
      06. Character I would shag anytime: Frodo. Both book and movie. *am shameless*
      07. Character I’d want to be like: Sam. I always hope that I would show as much loyalty, love and sacrifice for my friends.
      08. Character I’d slap: Sam. As much as I love him, it still hurts for me to read about his treatment of Smeagol. It is his harsh words that I think drove Gollum past the point of forgiveness and that always makes me cring.
      09. A pairing that I love: I love Sam and Rosie.
      10. A pairing that I despise: Frodo/Sam. Aragorn/Boromir. I do get how people read slashy overtones in the book, but I completely disagree with it. It makes me annoyed that all of the fanfic being written lately seems to be slash. I love exploring the interactions and friendships in the fellowship–just not the romance. Bleh.

    Gilmore Girls

      Wonderful!

      Gilmore Girls
      01. Character I first fell in love with: Lorelai. She was vivacious and witty and strong. She is what first drew me into the show.
      02. Character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Sookie.
      03. Character everyone else loves that I don’t: Dean. Although I think the concensus was finally that he was lame, but I’ve hated him for so long. I didn’t like him very much after the first breakup (although I will be honest and admit that i was thrilled when Rory and he got back together, mostly because it was romantic and pulled at the heartstrings and I loved how it mirrored Lorelai), and the it quickly settled into intense hate during the second season. I have no mourned his absense at all.
      04. Character I love that everyone else hates: Emily. I love Emily. I love the interaction between her and Lorelai, her insecurities. I wouldn’t want to be Emily and they’ve certainly played her up too much this year as the “society person” which is disappointing, but I usually really like the scenes with her in it.
      05. Character I used to love but don’t any longer: Christopher. The guy got lame. I liked him in the first couple of seasons, even when he was with Sherrie, but then he became clingy and just off kilter. Ugh.
      06. Character I would shag anytime: Jess. That goes without saying. With Jess as my boyfriend, Dean definitely would not have been who I lost my virginity to.
      07. Character I’d want to be like: Paris. Actually, I think I’m a lot like her, just a little less neurotic. I like her outspokenness and her drive, her biting sense of humor.
      08. Character I’d slap: Rory. I’ve wanted to slap Rory for the past two seasons. Most people mature when they get older, not become childish and ridiculous. She’s almost made me quit watching the show on numerous occasions.
      09. A pairing that I love: Rory/Jess (that really goes without saying!). Lorelai/Max. Paris/Tristan. Lorelai/Luke (they’ve been much better together than I expected).
      10. A pairing that I despise: Rory/Dean. Ugh, ugh, ugh, ugh.

    Harry Potter.

I’m sure you didn’t see that one coming. 😉

      Gilmore Girls
      01. Character I first fell in love with: Harry of course. From the first bespeckled appearance in Sorceror’s Stone (did they keep it as Philosopher’s Stone in Africa?), I adored him.
      02. Character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Professor McGonagall. I have to admit, I have the movies for my basis. I LOVE Maggie Smith, I think she’s fantastic, and her protrayal of McGonagall has been amazing. And I’ve just loved her development over the books–how she tries to protect Harry, but still allows him to have fun and be himself.
      03. Character everyone else loves that I don’t: I don’t think I dislike anybody. I’m disappointed in Ginny (see below), but I still like her.
      04. Character I love that everyone else hates: Hermione seems to have developed quite the hate group recently, with moanings about how she acted in HBP and then dislike of Emma, and I really, really like her. I like her brainy nerdiness and how she’s never let that change.
      05. Character I used to love but don’t any longer: *sigh* Ginny. I had such hopes for her character. She seemed to be growning up, gaining some confidence and there was all of that “the seventh child, but the first girl in seven generations” specialness, and she was supposed to be significant because of her exposure to Voldemort. I was VERY disappointed with her characterization in the 6th book. Instead of awesome, she became the popular, pretty girl of the school and all of the potential just disappeared.
      06. Character I would shag anytime: Harry is still underage. I can’t in good conscience mention him. 🙂 I’d probably go for Fred (or maybe George. I can’t tell them apart). I think we would have a very good time together. 😉
      07. Character I’d want to be like: Hermione. Love her.
      08. Character I’d slap: Hagrid. At some point, he needs to show a little bit of sense. He’s a dear, but…
      09. A pairing that I love: I’m not really fanning anybody. I used to be a big Ginny/Harry fan, but that’s faded. I like Harry/Hermione for several reasons, that’s probably what I follow the most these days. Mostly, I’m a Trio fan. I love the friendship between all three, much more than the little romances.
      10. A pairing that I despise: Ron/Hermione. I know they are the big favorite, and I know that the attraction has been long building, but Ron shows absolutely no respect for Hermione’s interest in school and learning, and I hate that. I hate the bickering, it’s just gotten old.

    Green Gables?

I liked your LoTR answers, even where we differ. (I think the current fascination for Boromir in the movie fandom is pure Sean Bean. I was much more used to defending him in book fandom!)

My goal was to read 120 books this year. I just finished number 129. (Some of these I reviewed as part of my WWW posts). October: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. I had high expectations for this book, as it had been so praised, and I felt let down by it. Still enjoyable, […]
