I spent my day off… updating my journal design.
Well not entirely. I did apply for my temporary license where I had to vow with my soul and with blood (okay, with just a notary public) that I was telling the truth and the whole truth that I spent 5 weeks after graduation last year lazing around and moving, instead of doing medical stuff (because heaven forbid I should ever take some personal time and not let TPTB know).
I’ve been wanting to revamp the journal for a long, long time. My beloved Anne layout had been used for over a year, and I just kept looking at it, longing for something better. It’s nowhere near what I want (I gotta figure out how to customize Flexible Squares), but it’s a new pretty background that makes me happy. I had really thought about doing a non-fandom layout, but I couldn’t resist. It was so bright and cheery.
Tell me how it looks for y’all. Not too fuzzy? Doesn’t take too long to load? No white areas? Color okay?
In other news, my patient survived and is doing better. So I’m sleeping better and not being haunted by dreams.
I’ve lately discovered that iTunes is now carrying Pod casts of several of my favorite NPR radio shows, namely “Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me” and “News from Lake Wobegon” (wish it was the entire show of A Prairie Home Companion) and StarDate that have been satisfying my inner nerd. Today, I discovered that they are also carrying another Garrison Keillor program, “The Writer’s Almanac.” I remember listening to this every morning as my parents got ready for school. Plus, I discovered that they have the transcripts online, so I’m very excited at the prospect of introducing some poetry into my daily life again. I’ve missed that.
And lastly, for at least my amusement: Conversation at work yesterday….
MED STUDENT: Yeah, so {patient} thought that Julia and I were twin sisters. I guess we could be fraternal twins.
ME: That would have been one long gestation period!
MS: I’m 24, how old are you?
ME: *pause* *pause some more* Um. I don’t know. Either 27 or 28. I think I’m 27. Wait. No, I’m 27. I think. I had my birthday in November and I’m pretty sure I turned 27. Or maybe it was 28.
MS: You don’t know how old you are??
Yes, it’s true folks, until yesterday, I didn’t know how old I am. Let it be known, that I am officially (according to the computer because I had to look it up on google before I would believe it) 28 years old. In just over a year and a half, I will be 30. Hmmm. I wonder when I’ll ever start acting my age.

I like the design!
Hee, that sounds like something I would do, not knowing my own age. That’s funny. Acting your age is overrated. π
I haven’t acted my age since I was twelve. π Sometimes I act older, usually quite younger.
And thank you! I like it too.

Journal = very pretty!
I can never remember how old I am, either.
Thanks!
Birthdays are such relative things, you know. But I’m glad other people have trouble remembering their ages as well. My team was looking at me like I was quite the freak.

Whee! The Doctor and Rose! Lovely!
I find that many people I know have that age problem as well. Also, as my birthday is in May, and many of my friends’ birthdays are in the fall, they start saying they are older than they are once I turn that age. Which is just weird I think.
Thanks! I just adore them! You finally got to see the season finale right??
I think I have just the opposite problem. My friends’ birthdays are in May and August, and I’m theold one with the birthday in November. So because I know that they are still 27, I still think that I’m 27.

The new layout is ADORABLE! Did you make it yourself? How does one do/where does one find such things? Every time I think I’m lj-savvy I find another area in which I’m clueless.
So glad to hear things turned out okay with the patient. *relieved sigh*
I did make it myself. I took a screenshot of my new Doctor Who season 2 DVDs, and then did rough and dirty photoshop (you can see the background that his nicely covered up by the journal here: http://pics.livejournal.com/jcd1013/pic/000fy32s/). The layout is “The Boxer” and all that I did was change the colors around. I’m not very good with the CSS modifications and codings. One day, maybe.

I like it!
(As for age, nowadays I mentally subtract my birth year from the current year to work out my age. I find that easier…)
Oh, is that how they do it thse days. I can’t never keep track of them newfangled ideas!
It doesn’t work as well when you’re a November birthday because for 10 months of the year, it’s a wrong calculation. π

Oh, how good to hear that things are going better.
And I hear you on the age issue. Sometime around my 30th birthday time lost all meaning. Actually, it must have been before that, because I could not bring myself to care about turning 30.
I’ve felt the same age since about my 22nd birthday, I think that’s why I hve difficulty remembering. Hopefully, I’ll hit my 30th year with as much decorum.
And I too am sooo relieved that things are going a little smoother.

Oh and who are the guys on your layout? I really like it, btw!
π That’s my latest obsession, the new seasons of Doctor Who. You should definitely try them out. It’s cheesy, but oh, it’s good.

Ha! I was reading this post, thinking, “You’re 28, Julia. At least… I think you’re 28… because I just turned 28 last weekend, and you’re older than me but only slightly so you must be 28. Yep.” Poor thing… -pat, pat- Senility is a scary thing, isn’t it? π
I kid, I kid. -HUG-
π Whever. I think that’s a new word that I just invented. π I like!
Oh, no! Becks, I missed your birthday!!! Happy Birthday, dear friend! Did you have a good one???
I might have a weekend off in the next few weeks. Any chance you’d like a visitor?

I think I’ve mentioned it recently, but I absolutely love your new journal design. The way they’re looking across your words at each other. It’s an amazing thing.
Yes, it’s true folks, until yesterday, I didn’t know how old I am.
I’ve had times like that. I’ll have to remind myself of my child’s birthday and stuff (especially the year). And once in a while, I even forget my middle name. Ha! Unfortunately it’s true. π
Hope you are well, my darling!
Thanks!! It’s from Dr. Who, one of my latest obsessions. It’s just full of significant looks and lingering touches and chummy companionship and the most wonderful hugs.
I’m so bad. I sign checks as “2002” half the time (don’t know why I’m stuck in that year). And yes, I’ve forgotten my name before too! So glad that it doesn’t happen to just me!

Eventually some days I just resign myself to go through the asking of, “Um, what day is it today?” to which I’ve got to get past the “It’s Wednesday…” debacle on my way to the actual date. Time is a flightful thing. It changes speed and direction so often in my mind that the keeping track of it is something to just laugh at.
