Music rec…

posted in Uncategorized |

The iTunes Single of the Week is a MUST HAVE.

I first heard Brandi Carlile’s “The Story” on Milwaukee Public Radio’s “Cafe Tonight” (still the best music on the radio in Milwaukee *sigh*) and I almost swerved my car off the road, I was so intent on finding out who sang this song (it was a dangerous drive that night. First time I heard “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol as well). Strong, raw vocals and powerful, yet slightly whimsical lyrics. I bought it on iTunes that night.

All of these lines across my face
Tell you the story of who I am
So many stories of where I’ve been
And how I got to where I am
But these stories don’t mean anything
When you’ve got no one to tell them to
It’s true…I was made for you

I climbed across the mountain tops
Swam all across the ocean blue
I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules
But baby I broke them all for you
Because even when I was flat broke
You made me feel like a million bucks
Yeah you do and I was made for you

You see the smile that’s on my mouth
Is hiding the words that don’t come out
And all of my friends who think that I’m blessed
They don’t know my head is a mess
No, they don’t know who I really am
And they don’t know what I’ve been through but you do
And I was made for you…

Go, download now, you!

Was she good live? Did she play songs from her newest album? I know absolutely nothing about her, just that I really liked this song.

I’ve seen her in concert too (Earth Day festival in Boston last year) and I own her first album, after hearing “Throw It All Away” on the radio late one night and going into MUST HAVE mode. It’s a good album and she’s very enjoyable in concert – really wails, to the point where you’re afraid she’s going to burn her voice out.

She was really cool. I don’t remember what songs she played. It was last year and she was just part of a greater venue, including Duncan Sheik and Carbon Leaf.

My goal was to read 120 books this year. I just finished number 129. (Some of these I reviewed as part of my WWW posts). October: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. I had high expectations for this book, as it had been so praised, and I felt let down by it. Still enjoyable, […]
