One last post (and a little fun poll)
It’s been such a rare thing for me to be in a good mood the past 14 days (day off tomorrow! 1 week without call (already 5 days into it, boo)! Discharging patients! I’m positively euphoric!), that I hope you’ll forgive the multiple posts. Soon I’ll slink back into the dredge of daily life, but for now, I don’t want to be thinking about how this is one of the worst months I’ve had as a medical student and a fledgling doctor.
In the meantime, one of my entries last week got me thinking. And in turn, I’m submitting it to you:
What are some of your favorite hugs from tv/movies/art/media/etc. They can be romantic/playful/friendly/comforting (do I need to go on?). I’m thinking about changing around my icons to a bunch of hugs for every mood and I’d like a good collection. Pictures would be helpful (nothing pornographic or graphic please!), but not necessary. Obscure is welcomed!
(And now to bed go I. Have a busy day. Kristin is coming over to help me make bookshelves and Kara might come over as well. The neuro gang is meeting up for Jazz in the Park downtown and Chris might drive out if he decides that an 1 1/2 hours each way isn’t too bad (I think he’ll back out). So I must get my beauty rest!

I’m having trouble thinking of any good hugs other than X-files. Except, totally obscurely, I have a memory that when the Genie hugs Aladdin it’s very comfy-looking because of his big blue arms. Okay, weird, yes. Will think more.
Oh – you can’t make an icon of it, but read the book Bellwether by Connie Willis if you haven’t yet. Possibly the best hug ever written’s in there.

In Prisoner of Azkaban, the Trio hug when Buckbeak is supposedly dead. Of course.
In Empire Strikes back, Chewbacca hugging Han Solo on Cloud City after Han’s been tortured. There’s something about really BIG guys/creatures giving comforting hugs that is just awesome.

I do love the Trio hug (I think everybody does).
I can’t find a good screencap of that hug, but you’re right. It’s awesome. Or when Chewie hugs Han after he wakes up from the hibernation chamber. Or when Chewie grabs and hugs Luke when he’s saying goodbye in A New Hope (I think that’s when it is). Or when Leia hugs Chewie after the boys kill off some X-Fighters.
Man, I do need some Star Wars Icons!

There are a lot of great hugs in the SW trilogy, but my favorite moment, I think, of the whole epic, is shown in my icon. It’s not quite a hug, but the way he looked at her (in care), and the way he put his arm around her shoulder—it couldn’t have meant less than an embrace.

Oh, I forgot:
the first cinematic hug I think of is Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray at the end of “Lost in Translation.” I know it’s not a big, showy kind of movie, but they got to be such good friends in such a short amount of time, and their hug exuded so much.

Aladdin was one of my favorite Disney movies. And it’s been years since I watched it. That may have to be added to the “Must have” collection as well.

I meant the first Aladdin hug you have there, yeah! Thinking about this I’m discovering that about half my favorite hugs qualify as Big Hugs Little. Scully being so short even adds to the appeal of the X-Files ones somehow.
My sister and I were brainstorming just now and came up with some more:
*the end of Sleepless in Seattle, on top of the Empire State building, when Tom Hanks and his son are reunited. (Parent/Child hugs could be a whole other subgroup.)
*isn’t there a good Rogue/Wolverine hug in the first X-Men? including possibly when he gives her his power to revive her at the end?
*I can’t remember if you’re a Veronica Mars fan but the best hug is in 1×15, “Ruskie Business” (in the Hug of Consolation/UST subgroup)
*more Big Guy hugs – the Ghost of Christmas Present in the Muppet Christmas Carol gives some great ones
*in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, the funniest homophobic teenage boy hug ever

The first hug that comes to mind is the X Files, that Mulder/Scully hug at the end of Memento Mori.
Hurley on Lost gives great hugs in various episodes — the kind where the other person’s feet leave the ground.
