Both my dad and sister reminded me that I had been there when Laura was burnt by the tar. Apparently, my mom, sisters and I had gone on a bike ride and Laura had ridden her bike directly into the hot tar pit. So my memory was correct!

Speaking of nostalgia and memories, have you all seen the latest Arcade Fire video? I shared it on my Facebook a couple of weeks (maybe even months now!) and I still love it. Go here to their website, type in your address (nostalgia is one of the ingredients to making it powerful and mindblowing – it’s best if its the address of a place you grew up) and wait for it to load. It only works on Google Chrome or Safari and it also uses a lot of memory and processing ability, so it is best if you only have that one program open. And then after you see it, read/listen to the interview on NPR about how they made the video. It’s amazingly magical.

All About Me Day 07- A picture of where you live
I’ve inundated you all with pictures of my house over the last month. Does anybody not know what my house looks like?

Instead, pictures of my other “home”:

The hospital. Well, technically, this is the clinic side, the hospital is directly in the back. But I don’t have any pictures of that side.

The common room. There’s an old tv, a DVD/VCR combo that doesn’t work. The two computers are painfully slow (but it can be quite competitive to get a computer in the wee hours when the ER calls with yet another consult). But I have slept many an hour on the sofa and they are quite comfy. Even if I don’t think that they have been cleaned once in the 5 years that I’ve been there.

The hallway to the call rooms. The shared bathrooms are on the left. I’ve only ever used the showers once, because of the fear of getting paged just right when the shampoo is lathered on. And frankly I don’t care enough – six hours later, my shift should be finishing and I can sleep.

The call room. They’re all pretty much the same. The beds are just right in softness, but the rooms are stuffy. I don’t sleep well there, ever, even when the Call Gods are kind and keep the pagers quiet.

Shortly after I took these pictures, the hospital issued a policy that all photos inside the hospital had to be approved in advance, which is utter bulllocks if you ask me. Before I graduate, I’m getting pictures of the hallways and workrooms that I have haunted for 5 years!

HP – Day 7: Favorite female character and why?
It’s a toss up between Luna and Hermione. I’ve raved about Luna. I find her utterly charming and her relationship/friendship with Harry endearing. They are so honest with each other, never having to be anything but what they are. I’m envious of how comfortable Luna is with who she is. Very refreshing. And her commentary of the Quidditch match was one of the most brilliant conversations Jo ever penned.

Hermione – I think I probably am a Hermione. Except for the bushy hair (does flat and thin count?). I admire her loyalty and her cleverness – I’ve often wished that I had the skills for problem solving that she had. I’ve always felt that she was under-appreciated by her friends and it’s probably because I was teased in my younger years for being “smart” that I’ve never been able to see why she would be interested in Ron. But that’s me projecting, I’m sure. 🙂
